Share Your Best Blogging Tips For $15

January 17th, 2010 · 26 Comments

Today is a pretty exciting day for Teenius as this is the 100th post published. In that time, there’s been well over 3,000 comments, just under 80,000 words published and around 100,000 words in the comments (not including my own). There have also been twenty guest posts and six interviews published.

Sorry for the “bragging”, but I just wanted to try and highlight the importance of the reader and how much they contribute to the success or failure of a blog. So, for that, I’d like to thank anyone and everyone who has posted a comment, linked here, retweeted me, guest posted, stumbled me or simply visited this blog. I won’t get all sentimental on you, but it means a lot!

In the time which this blog has been up, since March 2009, and more recently in particular, I’ve tried to focus this blog around different tips to help others improve their blogs.

Wait! You mentioned cash in the title!

Yes; to celebrate Teenius ‘100th post birthday’ I will be giving away some cash to the people who can provide the most useful blogging tips.

To enter, it is quite simple. Just post your best blogging tip in the comment section of this post. You don’t have to write an essay; just write whatever is sufficient to make your point useful to other bloggers.

Then, on the 23rd of January, me and another blogger will decide on our favourite two tips. The authors of those tips will win $15 via Paypal each.

Sounds easy… what’s the catch?

This contest is all about sharing blogging tips and helping each other as bloggers. Hopefully, we can all learn something from this contest (myself included). To make sure that all my readers can benefit from the tips, I may take inspiration from the comments to create posts, but in that case the blogger who posts the tip will get a linkback to their website.

There’s the catch for you… more exposure to you AS WELL as the money at stake!

There is no restriction on the advice you give, as long as it’s related to blogging. Therefore, it could be to do with writing great content, traffic building, monetisation, brand building… anything! As long as it helps other people to make their blog “better”, that’s fine!

stopLet’s get sharing!
Remember to submit your best blogging tip by midday (GMT) on the 23rd January. If you win, I’ll contact you on the email you used to win the comment, as well as publishing the winners in a post.
It’d be really appreciated if you could tweet about this contest so that we can get more blogging tips going and make this a useful resource for bloggers.

  • My best blogging tip? Get a flippin’ personality. Brand yourself with your design AND your writing style. Heck, develop a writing style so you CAN brand yourself that way. I want to read something and -know- who wrote it. That’s what builds trust.

  • Without sounding like I am promoting my blog, I would have to say:

“Start building a email list from the start!”

Other than that, just write quality content and focus on promotion, SEO and networking!

  • Building a blog is like raising a child. It takes a lot of effort to keep it going through the first few years. It must be nourished with content and enamored with attention. And when someone comes along and tells you that your blog is beautiful, it makes it all worth it.

If you don’t raise your blog like it needs to be raised, then it’s not going to have much room to grow. It’s just going to sit there in your basement for the rest of your life and it’ll ask for it’s annual allowance that you’ll feel obligated to pay.

On the other hand, if it’s raised properly, it has a good chance of maintaining itself. It’ll make it’s own friends, start pulling in it’s own income and eventually move on to bigger and better things.

My tip: Treat your blog like a child and don’t expect it to maintain itself until several years down the road.

    Hi Simon!

OK, I’ve only been at this blogging lark for a very short amount of time, so I’m definitely no expert. The best tip I could give is…

Be yourself, write from the heart, and write it exactly as if you were talking face to face with your reader.

By “face to face with your reader”, I don’t mean in a public speaking arena with you on the stage and all your readers making up the audience. I mean sitting in one reader’s lounge room having a chat over a coffee.

    Kind regards,
    Steve.

My blogging tip is to not be afraid of talking to other people about your blog. Pimp it out…stumble your posts, participate in blog carnivals, ask to guest post on other people’s blogs, comment on other people’s blogs, invite your friends to visit and tell their friends. You can’t hide your light under a bushel when blogging.

My best blogging tip would be to add your adverts inside your blog posts and not around the sides of the blog. People tend to ignore the sides of the blog and placing the ads at the bottom of a blog post or at the beginning is a good way to increase exposure and revenue. It works for me

    Blog Tip:
1] Make a blog about a topic which covers your basic INTEREST..

2] if you like following FOOTBALL, making a blog on anything related to Football will get you success, if you are crazy about cars, then go ahead and make a blog about cars.

3] So always concentrate on Keyword with your interest.

4] Content is the king, so always write UNIQUE content, never use copy pasted material. it hurts your blog.

5] Never Forget to use “Copyright” button on your blog, so that your deserve traffic should not go away to some other blog just because he or she has copy pasted almost all of your blog in his big Copy pasted Website or sumthing.

6] Try to stick your name with a particular thing, “brand ambessader” kind of thing, People will follow your blog for that paricular thing, thats the success over long term.

7] Always be in contact with other bloggers and always feel free to give some time to people who care to comment on your blog, so that they will follow you again in future, if you keep connection with them.

8] email list building is good, but never SPAM people in your list, as it will hurt your reputation and they will add you in “Just Another Spammer on Internet” Black list.

9] Blog post might be smaller, but care to update your blog regularly, people dont follow a blog with last post 1 year back.

10] There could be 1000s of tips and tricks which can be enlisted.. just stick with your topic and think more about sharing info, than about monetizing your blog. the more advertisement, the less reputation.

I like this mini contest Simon! So here’s my best blogging tip:

Like all things that you want to do in life, everything has to start with inspiration. But inspiration is not enough alone- you have to follow it up with determination and perseverance. Think you can be successful just by blogging an hour a day? Wake up. You can’t. Successful blogs are built by brand, by quality, by reciprocation to it’s community, by it’s ability to raise the standards (or set it in the first place).

Finally, the ultimate blogging tip is about constant innovation. It’s not just about writing on a regular basis, it should go to a progression of a small goal to a bigger goal. That is, to constantly challenge oneself.

Last but not the least, it’s by remembering and keeping too the inspiration that have started you in the first place.

  • Ben Lang says:

Darn I missed it! Great idea though Simon :)

  • My tip is constructing dynamic, descriptive tags for each page of your site.
When Google, Yahoo!, and other engines cull search results, they return a title with a brief description of the linked page, as seen above. These SERPs, as they’re called, are extremely scannable, and the user’s attention is immediately drawn to the titles because they are bold, blue, and clearly distinct from the rest of the page. As you might have guessed, the titles are constructed from the actual tags on the pages of your site.

Ideally, the contents of your tags would not only change with every page, but they would also be indicative of the information contained on that particular page. On top of that, you would certainly want your titles to appeal to humans, because ultimately, if the title they see in the SERPs doesn’t appeal to them, they’re not going to click on it!

  • Try to post atleast twice a week with relevant content , you want the reader to be able to read one post and be excited for the following one released at the end of the week. Basically be consistent

  • My Tip :

    * Target one niche at a time
    * Write regularly
    * Guest post for backlinks
    * Share with friends in Twitter and Facebook
    * Avoid advertisements for the first few months until blog gets authority
