Review: Webmaster Format.com

August 29th, 2009 · 23 Comments

Today I’m going to be writing something a little bit different: a review. I’m hoping to start a series where I’ll occasionally review different sites that you, the Teenius readers, will find interesting and helpful.

The first review is of WebmasterFormat.com. The site is an information point for webmasters (particularly beginners) who need advice on matters relating to their work. As well as that, there are numerous pages of helpful links and reviews of products that you will undoubtedly find useful. Here is an excerpt of the ‘About’ page to give you a better idea:

WebmasterFormat.com is a website specially developed to help new webmasters quickly and easily gather all the necessary info to develop, maintain and promote their very first website or a blog. While browsing our knowledge base you’ll find a lot of relevant and detailed guides about hosting, domain names, web development, e-commerce, and website promotion.

The Content

Let’s start with the important stuff. The content on this site is awesome! When I first started running sites, I read through a lot of forums for information and advice, but I genuinely wish that I’d just found this site instead. Not only do the articles contain tonnes of information a beginner would find priceless, it’s well written and set out in a way that makes the right information easy to find.

I won’t lie; to the more experienced webmaster the site probably won’t be that useful, but for what it’s made for (beginners), it holds some great information that is a pleasure to read. As well as that, there’s loads of articles, meaning that you can read in-depth information that will definitely help your website to grow.

There aren’t just articles though. As I mentioned earlier, there are loads of reviews of different products too (free and paid) which will be useful. For example, there is a section for CMS (Content Management Systems) which contains Wordpress as one of the products. Now, whilst a more experienced webmaster will know about WP, for a beginner this review is priceless as it introduces them to a tool that will help their site progress.

The Design

The design on this site is also pretty nifty. It’s extremely easy to find articles through the navigation menu on the left, which lists each individual article in a drop down menu that’s very well presented. It’s also easy to access the reviews as there are some tabs (that look a little out of place in my opinion) as well as being accessible through the drop down menu on the left.

Conclusion

In all honesty, the more experienced webmaster will undoubtedly know most the information on the site and therefore find it a tad tedious, but for a webmaster just starting out, it’s the ideal site and I highly recommend bookmarking it incase you ever need to find anything out.
