Interview With Blogger & Comedian, Jordan Cooper

January 15th, 2010 · 16 Comments

When I first signed up to the Problogger.com forums, I was just browsing around and I came across a guy named Jordan Cooper. At the time he was asking for a critique of his new website, NotAProBlog.com. I checked it out and really liked what I saw: a critical and rather sarcastic view of blogging. Since then I’ve been hooked on Jordan and his blog, and I’m sure after reading the interview and seeing his site, you will be too!

The Interview

Hi Jordan, and thanks for the interview. Firstly, could you tell the readers a bit about yourself?
Hey everyone out there, I’m Jordan Cooper. That’s Jordan with an “A” not an “O”. Although you can probably see that already. Unless the font size is too small. You should tell Simon to change his typography then. Or you can cut and paste this interview into your favorite text editor and make it look whatever way you want. In any case, it’s an “A”, not an “O”. A-ok?

And your blog?
Oh yeah, the place where no one visits. Not A Pro Blog. It’s just a blog where I write stuff and talk about things. Sometimes though I just write things and talk about stuff. You know what I mean, Simon? You have to mix it up sometimes.

Definitely. The thing I love most about your blog is the fact you attach a video post to the articles. Could you talk us through why you do the videos rather than just purely text-based articles?
I’m lazy. Really, that’s the reason. It takes so much longer to write things down. Did you realize the alphabet has almost 26 letters in it? I don’t have time to sort through them all and place them in the correct order. That’s why I do video. No letters.

Haha, fair enough! For someone who was interested in giving video blogging a go on their blog, what advice would you give them?
Definitely get a webcam. I’ve actually been video blogging for about 6 years, but I didn’t get much success at it until I used a camera.

From reading your about page (and indeed talking to you), you’re a funny guy. Do you reckon that helps you as a blogger, and what would you say about people using their personality in blog posts?
I would hope they don’t. It’s the only thing that’s keeping me afloat right now. You’d see how unfunny I was if others began to do it. Yeah, imagine if everyone started having their own unique opinions on issues… how would we know who’s content to regurgitate?

As a follower of yours on Twitter, you definitely use it a lot to retweet other bloggers posts which you’re reading. What’s your reasoning behind doing this, and would you say it helps your blogging?
Like I said before, I’m lazy. I figure instead of even bothering to make a video or write about the same thing, I’ll just let my follower get it right from the source. They see it’s from me, so I’m building brand recognition there. Oh, and it totally helps my blogging… I can retweet so many more blog posts than I can produce myself. That’s why I’m on Twitter all day. I only have two columns though. One for users who haven’t blocked me yet. The other for you, Simon.

You obviously visit a lot of sites. Which are the ones that stand out as your favourites, and why?
3 blogs I enjoy reading now… CatsWhoBlog.comRobbSutton.comSiteSketch101.com. I’m not sure why. I downloaded their free eBook a while back and now I think I’m just drawn to them. Maybe it’s fate. I don’t know… It’s like God is giving me a sign since every e-mail I get in my inbox seems to have a link to them in it.

Another is the Firefox start page. Although they don’t put up new content often.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or mention?
Nope.

Over to you…

Had you heard of Jordan before? What do you think of his blog? Would you like to add anything to the interview?

As always, I’d love to hear your thoughts as well as any further questions you may have for Jordan. Also, don’t forget to tweet this interview!
