Alex Fraiser: Revisited

October 26th, 2009 · 29 Comments

In the first month after launching this blog, I interviewed a very capable young blogger called Alex Fraiser. This interview is now the second most popular post on Teenius with over 55 comments to date! However, a lot has changed since that interview, and now that Alex is 16 I thought it would be a great idea to interview him again and see what’s happened since the last interview!

Before you read this, you may want to take a look at the previous conversation we had by clicking here.

The Interview

Hi Alex, and thanks for coming back for another interview! So, what’s changed since the last time you were featured here on Teenius?
Alex: So in the last time I was interviewed here, a lot has been going on for me blogging wise. I opened up two new blogs in addition to Blogussion. The first blog I call Asnio, and basically is a blog about young entrepreneurship, young bloggers, some web design and the Thesis framework. The second blog I opened up is an add-on to Blogussion, and it’s all about creating a more unique blog. I have been focusing more on Blogussion and UniqueBlog.net more than Asnio, but all blogs are doing quite well for themselves.

Great. Of course, the blog that really gave you a name in the blogosphere was Blogussion. Tell us a bit about the changes that have happened there since last time?
Alex: Besides the addition of our guide to creating a unique blog, we have also launched another guide entitled From Planning to Earning. This is a pretty comprehensive guide that is split into three parts:

  1. Learning how to blog (link)
  2. How to setup a blog (link)
  3. Earn money blogging (link)

Just a few days ago we announced our new, refreshed design. It is a lot more interactive than our previous one, and we built this design so it can hold more content than our old design could. With a design refresh like that, it only means that there are a lot of great things happening on Blogussion! To start off all of these things we have in store, we opened up a blogging tips newsletter. Our first newsletter will be sent out this Sunday, the 1st of November I believe – so check it out and sign up if you want some really awesome blogging tips!

Cool, sounds like you’ve been busy on it! One of the things that I love about your websites is the design. So, would you mind giving the Teenius readers some tips on creating awesome aesthetics?
Alex: Really, it all comes down to planning and patience. Over time, I am always thinking of ways to improve the way Blogussion looks. I get constant comments about the design – people who love it, some things people don’t like and I take notes of them. But I only update the design when I see that there are new opportunities for the blog. Going back to our expansion, our last design wouldn’t exactly been suited to fit the content we have in store as well as our new theme is going to. Of course this may not make much sense to you now, but just wait a month or two and you will start seeing how well our theme works with our new content.

New content, eh? What can we expect to see in the future then?
Alex: Ah, I’d hate to ruin the surprise here! But, I can tell you that it involves a product.

Ah, the secret master plan?! Anyway, last question, what advice would you give to other bloggers, especially newbies?
Alex: I really believe that it’s all about your community. The community consists of your readers, commentators, stumblers, retweeters, poll voters – anyone who makes contact with your blog. The community is where the money is at. Do what you can to build the strongest community you can, and when you think you have a very strong readership going – look into some monetization methods. This may hurt your hopes, but don’t expect to earn anything or build any solid readership in your first few months of blogging.

That’s your lot!

I’d like to thank Alex for letting me interview him again, and I hope that you guys have enjoyed reading the interview and will check out his awesome websites!

As well as that, Alex is happy to answer any questions you have for him, so feel free to leave a comment below to ask a question or just let us know what you think!
