As discussed earlier at Teenius, Laying out Blog Posts effectively. This post tells us about the formatting and looks of the posts. How many images to be used, how to use headings etc. As its well said “Content is King”, we all have to take care of King. King is happy the nation (readers) will be happy too.

Here, I’m going to tell you how to write your Blog Posts. The main key of writing is keeping in mind that the readers aren’t your Business Clients, Customers who are here to buy your e-book or a bot. I personally say think as they are your friends. So it makes it simple, write like your talking to your friends, with good expressions and a slight humour in your tone.
Expressing your Feelings:
Let’s say you want to write a post on your PR upgradation to PR3. Dont title your post as “PR updated to 3″ or “Blog is updated from PR2 to PR3″. Its like you are writing a post for keeping them busy or just an info. Write like you are sharing your happiness of your PR Upgrade, lets say “Yay, My Blog updated to PR3″. And the readers will think wow, our author is happy today.. lets see what he writes more. Even if they don’t know about PR, most of them will read just taking in mind the word WOW and saying theres something really amusing below.
Most of do this, but try NOT to write in Passive Voice. Write with expressions, give examples of yourselves and your experiences with your Posts.
I can’t write Conversationally:
If you think you can’t write conversationally, try hanging on with phone and speaking as you are talking to your friend and speak aloud all your points you had in mind for writing (Try avoiding the occassional swears
). Or maybe just directly talk to your friend. Its as simple as staying imformal as if you were sitting in your friends, discussing some blog topic ?!. Avoid writing Dear, Sir, Please kinda things. I mostly use Dude, mate.. that makes the reader happy and think the author really likes me, or is like a friend of mine.
Advantages of writing Conversationally:
- Helps in gaining Comments.
- Helps in creating a little family (loyal visitors).
- Helps express the real YOU.
- Helps the reader read it thoroughly, and with interest.

Great post. It is really important to add personality to writing. It does increase links and comments.

Yeah, it certainly does. Writing is what makes a blog (or any type of website), so if you can get that part right then you’re bound to get links, comments and sales (if that’s what you’re looking for
)
Yup. Its all about the tone you use. That tells them How do you see them. As friends or customers?
Nice to see you here.

Very good point. This is a question that bloggers should ask themselves everytime they write a new post. I mean, getting your target audience right is one of the most important parts of blogging.
Great post by the way Enk.
Hopefully I can return the favour and you can come back and post more?
I read this somewhere in an interview, “if you can, add humor to your writing, if you can’t, you’d better stick to the point”. I really enjoy reading posts by bloggers who include a lot of humor and sarcasm in their writing. It lightens the atmosphere.
I also like reading posts that are strictly to the point and don’t have a lot of fluff.
Conversational writing is a great way to make the reader understand what you’re saying.

Thanks for the great comment, hope you’ll drop by more often (nice site too)
Regarding the humour/sarcasm point, yeah, they’re great, but I think you have to make it quite obvious when you’re using them, otherwise you could come across as quite narky and even offensive, which would definately lose you traffic/readers.
Yeah, this exact thing happened with me on an old blog I used to run. I’d always used banter and joked around with different people, and then one post I accidentally took it a bit too far and lost a few loyal readers! I won’t be making that mistake again
The annoying thing was is that I’d actually meant it as a joke, but hadn’t made it clear, so make sure you do!
Ouch! I bet that hurt to lose readers over a silly little misunderstanding. Personally I try and use a conversation style, but I try and keep the sarcasm to a minimum, and when I do use it I’ll make sure my readers know.
Nice to see you here Ganesh.
Yup, Adding humour to the post is good, Add it.. readers love it.. But don’t beat about the bush as a time will come, readers will be annoyed reading your Post.

“What Is Conversational Writing?” – Something that’s not done enough in the blogging, make money, etc. niches anymore.
I think that a lot of us are afraid to write controversy, but then there are the people who think that just because they write controversy they will get all of that attention they want. It’s a rather controversial discussion I must say.

Agreed. Writing controversially may sound like a great idea, but can sometimes be as effective as shooting yourself in the foot. A blog I follow recently did a controversial post with a non-controversial point and got slated for it!
