Regular usage of forums increases the backlinks and also develops active community. You can get huge amount of traffic through the signature in the forums. They usually contain 3-4 links, which is quite enough. In this post, I discussed some of the common forum tips, including 5 cool forums to increase your backlinks.
How can forums help you?
1. Backlink building: You can get huge number of backlinks in fewer days. This result in better page ranking in search engines and gradually increases your PR.
2. Increases Traffic: By asking queries related to your blog can increase traffic instantly.
3. Signatures: Most forums allow you to keep two or three links URL in it (addition to some text). So better design a cool one. It attracts more visitors to your blog.
4. Ad Revenue Sharing: Forums like Digital Point is monetized with Google Adsense. It allows you to provide your client ID in your profile. So every time the thread is viewed your ads appear there and just like normal impressions and clicks you will get some worthy bucks.
6. Promote Your Brand: Upload your profile image, blog logo or even your product’s logo to promote your brand easily.
7. Readership: Forums are similar to Social Networks. Your forum friends and readers may develop long term relationship with your blog.

Yeah, I definately recommend trying it. Not only is it great for getting a load of backlinks, it also gets you a decent amount of traffic. A point that I don’t think Pradeep made clear enough is that the better (more helpful) your post is, the more likely people are to click your link.

Yeah, when I used to use DP I got a decent amount of traffic. At one point I was doing around 10 posts per day and I would get around 100-150 hits per month.
I haven’t used DP for a few weeks now, and I’ve seen the traffic drop to about 5 UVs/month.
Yeah, I too haven’t been around DP much. It’s not that I don’t want to be, it’s just that the Blogging community there is kind of lame and their other forums are getting pretty bad too. It’s kind of hard to make a good post there nowadays.

If I’m honest, I stopped using it when I started up Teenius. I gradually spent less and less time on there as I spent more and more time commenting on blogs, and now I find I only ever go on there to sell/buy stuff.

I have found DP is a great resource for questions, ideas for future posts, and backlinks. I get a decent amount of traffic every day from DP and have found some good connections for blogging ventures.
Also, I think forums help blogger’s who work in the blogging niche know what people are interested in. If anyone wants to become friends on DP let me know, my profile is Seth W.
Oh…. one more point, try to have the same name on all of the forums and keep it the same as your blog. It will build a brand much faster and help people make the connections to your work.

I really agree with your last point. I personally feel a brand is one of the most important things you can do for your blog, and that’s done by making associations. If you’re asking people to make connections between your forum username and your blog, that’s fine, but if you’re asking them to make connections between your blog and 5 different forum names, it’s too much.

I participate in several forums and have found they’re a great way to interact with others in your niche. While a lot of the searchable content isn’t useful, you can usually find a few valuable contacts and get some decent traffic by being an active member.

But I do have one disagreement… I was on SEOChat forums yesterday and actually asked if using links in my Digital Point signature to my website will help me in the Search Engines or gain PageRank and the answer was no…
I was told it doesn’t help you whatsoever in Google. It might help you with PageRank but I’m pretty positive it doesn’t.

I always use Forum is an effective campaign for my marketing strategy. just always remember that read all the guidelines of the forums and don’t spam so that you will not be banned for it.

Forums are a great way to gain more traffic. A really good method is to have multiple accounts and use a proxy for this. Ask questions with one account and answer them with another account with a link of your site. Also works great in Yahoo Answers.
Back links are one of the best ways to increase traffic to your site.
Talking about having a cool avatar. What makes me surprise and sometimes make me feel irritated is when i use a photo of cute girl as my avatar. Suddenly the number of visitors to my member page increase significantly, i get many PM from male member. Ah.. i think this is a good way to get many visitors from internet forums : set cutie girl pic as your avatar!

And its also noted that most of the Forums provide DoFollow links. It will be tough to get DoFollow links but its easier to get such forums. As I have seen my analytics, I can see the traffic from Digital Point Forum is high after FaceBook, Twitter and FriendFeed.

But most of the people make mistake by throuwing links too early after joining a forum. What you should understand is, you should first get familiar with the forum, make at least 20-25 post before posting a link. Otherwise forums are intelligent enough to know that you’re spamming.
