A Call to the Youth Around the World

This is a guest post by Aaron from teamsuccessinc.org. See how you can guest post on Teenius.

Back in my day, post Civil War, it took weeks if not months, to spread the news and mobilize around a particular issue. Everything was snail this and snail that. Imagine having to find a phone booth to call someone. Imagine having to wait two or three days to read a friend’s message. Imagine having to take a photo and wait a week before you could see the image. That was my world. Still business did get done, people did make money, and eventually the word was spread.

Today is new and exciting. You can write a message to a friend and they will read it in seconds. You can make a phone call to a friend and reach them almost everywhere (except in horror movies). You can see who you are speaking with, know where you are going, and have a pretty good understanding of the world around you thanks to the technology available. And still business will get done, people will make money, and, wait for it, the news will be spread. And that is the exciting part.

Today, young people, more than ever before, you have the power to control your world, your life, your destiny. You have the power to make things happen quicker than ever before. Look at the evidence. All across the country, flash mobs are forming and doing (whatever they do) before the authorities are even aware of it happening. There are large 200 person snowball and pillow fights organized online. House parties become neighborhood parties due to the power of the internet. And you know that rumors of an afterschool fight turn into quite the entertainment event complete with cool footage for youtube due to the internet. Now what if….

You were to use same this power – call it the Internet Youth Connection or IYC – to mobilize the same young community to assist each other with employment. When one hears of an available job opportunity, you send it to the IYC (Internet Youth Connection). When you need a reference or the support of others, the IYC is there. Imagine being lost in a strange city at night. Pretty scary? Relax, with the IYC, you can have the help you need, young people looking out the window, driving around, and guiding you, in every city in the world! Imagine starting a new business, and thanks to the IYC, you open to a throng of waiting supporters.

This is the power you possess each and every day. By the way, we can put this plan to the test today. My youth group, TEAM SUCCESS, is participating in an online contest sponsored by Pepsi. Like American Idol, the plan with the most votes wins. We are enrolling 150 at-risk youth into a Life Skills program where they learn about all the stuff to make them happy (and successful) in life. Afterwards, they get to go on an all expenses paid trip to Disneyland. Then we help them find jobs, housing, etc. Is this a job for the IYC? Do you think we can put out a call to action and get every young person to go online and vote for these young people? Vote for the youth. Remember we only have nine days left. Nine days? We could start a revolution in nine minutes. And so we shall – a revolution of a call to action among the youth. With the power of the Internet Youth Connection, you will be heard. You will be seen. You will BE.
