Wordpress is probably the most revolutionary tool the blogging world has ever seen. It combines everything a blogger could possibly want: whether they’re a newbie or a seasoned professional, Wordpress caters for everyone’s needs.
In the last few years Wordpress has really evolved, offering more chance to change your blog to suit your needs with a wide range of plugins and themes. This article will discuss the points that make Wordpress the best blogging platform there is.
#1: Themes
Because of the rapid growth of Wordpress, there has been opportunity for lots of coders to switch from making conventional static websites to coding themes for Wordpress. There are now thousands of themes available for Wordpress (and growing everyday), most of which are free due to the links you’ll find in the footers.
Just look around a bit and you’re guaranteed to find a perfect theme for you (and if you can’t then it’s extremely easy to find a coder to modify or create a theme). A Google search for ‘Wordpress Themes’ returns over forty million results!
#2: Plugins
Another great thing about Wordpress is the vast amount of plugins now available for the platform. If you’re wondering what on earth I’m on about, let me explain. Plugins are different files that allow you to add certain things to your blog. There are millions of different plugins available, ranging from ones that help you with your search engine optimisation work, all the way through to ones that allow you to integrate your site with your Twitter account.
You can see pretty much all the plugins that are available for download in the official Wordpress Plugin page.
#3: Customisability
Apart from the themes and plugins which you can download, there are other ways of customising your theme. For starters, you can customise the theme as the coding is so easy to understand. Personally I have no knowledge of xHTML/CSS, but managed to make significant changes to a friend’s Wordpress theme… it really is that idiot proof.
Other than actually changing code, the majority of Wordpress themes offer a widgetised sidebar that allows you to change different things, offering a wide range of options such as ‘categories’, ‘archives’ and ‘recent posts’ (to name a few). You can also download different widgets in the form of plugins. If you’re confused as to what a widgetised sidebar is… you can see it demonstrated here on Teenius below the adverts on the right hand side of the page.
#4: Ease of use
Arguably the greatest thing about Wordpress is the fact it’s so easy to use! Every update so far has made the dashboard even easier to use, clearly showing how to add new posts and pages, as well as putting your posts into different categories, managing your themes and making other changes. Wordpress is without a doubt one of the easiest-to-use programs ever developed, constantly offering new updates that make the interface even more user friendly.
#5: It’s FREE!
So, as if the above four points weren’t enough for you, Wordpress is completely free to download! Infact, all they ask is that you keep their link in your footer! I think this is more than a fair price to pay for one of the best things ever made on a computer!
As always we’d love to hear from you, whether it’s a compliment, a moan or you telling us about your website… just leave a comment!
A quick note…
Some of the long-term Teenius readers may recognise this post, and this is because it was first posted on March 27th 2009. I’ve reposted it as I think it’s one of the best posts on Teenius that a lot of the newer readers will enjoy!

WP is the most superior CMS ever made!
Definately. The ease of use is incredible and it has so many functions that allow you to make it better and more suited to your needs.
The plug-ins make blogging easy than ever. Wordpress always rocks. this is the reason why people like problogger, johnchow etc use it…
Good post Simon
Plugins are one of the best things about Wordpress as they allow you to customise your blog in so many different ways it’s unbelievable, but I do feel that all of the above factors contribute to Wordpress’ success.
Well, I won’t talk here about Wordpress but Blogging. Search Engines love BLOG in compare to Website. Wordpress has a major advantage of SEO.
I agree that blogs generally do better in search engine, probably because of the way that they’re usually updated more.
Also, you can download plugins that help you with your SEO work, the best of which is the ‘All in One SEO pack’.
Yea, very true. ALL IN ONE SEO Pack rocks !
Yeah, but as you’ve identified in your blog there are loads of great SEO plugins other than the All in One pack
I’ll be honest, I have basically never used another freeware for blogging, apart from Wordpress. I have tried Blogger a few times, but Wordpress is the easiest to work with and the most secure I have found.
Wordpress does rock!
WPThemeKid – Daniel’s last blog post..NetPartner Affiliate Program!
Definately. I did try Blogger once but it just doesn’t come close to Wordpress, especially the latest version (2.7)… it’s just so good!
Can’t wait for the 2.8 to be released
Guys, you need to check out Drupal, it is awesome too
Drupal is pretty good, but it’s no where near as good as Wordpress because it doesn’t have as many features.
Yes thats there, when it comes to customization, no one comes close to wordpress.
fas’s last blog post..Music From Windows XP & 98
Agreed. The amount of plugins and themes that have become available in the past year or so is unreal. Plus, every update Wordpress release just gets better and better. I’m honestly struggling to think of what they can do to improve the current version!
I love wordpress too. Almost all of my sites are using WordPress. It is very customizable. Even if WordPress is not free, I think I’ll still buy it and use it.
Splendid Kid’s last blog post..The Splendid Logo
Same here. WP is so easy to customise and suit to your needs that I would happily pay for it.
Wordpress is definitely the best blogging platform. Almost all successful bloggers use it.

This is why I love WP much. Thems, customisation, plugins that make it great, Adding a diamond to a crown.
well said buddy.
If I am in Internet for 10 hours I will be at blogs for 8 hours and and more that 85 p.c of blogs I find are powered by WP. My advice for newbies out there is “Choose Wise. Choose WP”
Haha, that’s a great motto!
Wordpress is most popular blogging platform. Its very easy and friendly and very advance.
Reposting is the trend now
What does it mean by reposting?
I’m basically reusing a post. Take this one for instance, I originally posted it on the blog in 26th April, but I brought it back to the top so that my newer readers can see it!
All excellent points. Wordpress rocks and I find myself using it more and more for non blog jobs too. When a client needs a business website now, I talk them into wordpress. I have even converted a few people over from Joomia (Although that’s because I have not used Joomia yet) and everyone seems happy.
Yeah, that’s another great aspect of WP! One of my friends in the offline world is actually creating an auction site from Wordpress! It’s potential is unlimited…
wordpress make our blogging very easy and effective. It’s really a great platform. You have shown appropriate reasons.
Glad you enjoyed the post!
Before I was using Blogger, but because of the feature that you point out above I changed it to wordpress. I am very happy and I will stick to it for very very long time.
Yeah, Wordpress definately offers much better customisation-potential than Blogger and, infact, any other blogging CMS (in my opinion).
if i could turn back time, i will use wordpress as my blogging platform, and buy my own domain.. WP is way better than blogspot.
Dude, seriously, you’re better off starting a new blog than carrying on with Blogspot. Buy a domain and install Wordpress and copy all the posts over, telling your readers about the change! You won’t regret it man!
Wow dude, that’s a big idea. Before i install WP, i should enlarge my information about it, even i don’t know how to install it. I will think about this later, this could be for some strong reason. and if i’m ready i will move to WP as soon as possible.
By the way, i want to notice your idea about copy all of my post to my new blog, is it fine to do? I think search engine will consider my new blog as a copycat.
Ah yes, forgot about the copycat point. I’m not an expert in that field by a long way, so try consulting someone who knows about search engines and all of that stuff before you go ahead with it!
That said, WP is extremely simple and easy to use, so you’ll find yourself mastering it in a number of hours!
i started with blogspot few years back wen i was a newbie in internet world and liked blogspot as it provides with free blog but after that i shifted blogging with wordpress and now happy with the benefits we all have with wordpress. and i recommend all of my frds to go with wordpress as for blogging
I think Blogget gets loads of new bloggers because the CMS is used by Blogspot, which as you say is popular because it’s free, but as soon as you want to do ’serious’ blogging, it’s always best to use the self hosted version of wordpress on a unique domain!
Yes,
I am feeling wordpress is little complex to me , i am using drupal(CMS)..
But i have to try wordpress for me in next site…
Also, as lots of people use it, it has a ver big community for support and advice.
Wordpress is definitely the best thing ever, I cant imagine my life without wordpress now
