Posting frequency is an issue which divides many bloggers. The right frequency for one blog may not work for the next. Here on Teenius, I post once every two days as I feel that’s a good balance between posting enough, and posting so much that my articles don’t get good exposure.
This article should hopefully give you an idea of how much you should post on your blog, although this post will not give you a definitive answer, it’ll merely guide you to deciding on the frequency which suits you, your blog and, maybe most importantly, your readers.
Things to consider
As I mentioned, this article will just give you ideas to think about which will aid you in deciding on an appropriate posting frequency. So, what questions should you ask yourself?
- How much time do you have? – Needless to say, if you don’t spend much time blogging, you won’t be able to post very often as you’ll need to allocate time to advertise and generally improve your blog
- How many comments do you want? – I aim for twenty comments per post, so have to factor that in. For example, if I post two articles a day then I won’t achieve twenty comments per post as there won’t be enough visitors. However, to achieve this target, an article every two days is ideal.
- How much traffic do you want? – The first part of this point is the same. If you’re aiming for a certain number of hits per post, the higher the goal, the longer you’ll need to leave the post at the top.
- How much traffic (part 2)? – Now you need to look at search engine rankings and the like. The more articles you post, the more pages you get indexed and therefore the more traffic you should be receiving from search engines.
- How’s your RSS count? – It is important to get the balance of posting frequency right to please your subscribers. Posting too often could annoy them due to the amount of emails they receive, however not posting enough could make them want to unsubscribe as the amount of content they’re receiving isn’t worth them staying subscribed.
- What do you want to say? – If you are only going to post every time you think of an amazing topic, it’s best to set your posting frequency lower, otherwise you may find you run out of things to write about.
Why I post every 2 days
I find my posting frequency is right for me for the following reasons:
- I do lots of activities, so I need to make time for them. If I posted more frequently than I do, I wouldn’t have time for my sports.
- Like I said, I aim for twenty comments per post. A post every two days gives readers time to do this, but still gives them enough content in general.
- It means that, if I spend an hour or two per day on my blog, one day can be spent purely on advertising, whilst the other can be posting.
- My niche (blogging) is a big one, so there’s plenty to write about. Therefore I can post fairly frequently.
Consistency is key
The thing to remember here is that, no matter how often you post, it needs to be consistent. This means that you should set a frequency and stick to it! It doesn’t matter whether it’s twice a day or once a week; just make sure you keep to the routine!
What about you?
As I said, this is a topic that divides bloggers, so I’d love to hear your views. How often do you post, and why do you post in that frequency? Please feel free to leave a comment and tweet the article… it’s really appreciated!

For me I post either every two days or every 3.
The reasons for this are mainly because I know I can write every day or two with little problem. Also I tend to think that If I post too often people will get easily turned off.

I also post every 2 days. For me no of comments is one of the most important factor.
Time is not a factor for me at all.

At the moment I don’t have a specified frequency, but I will soon. I am going to look at having set days, rather than every other day. This way each week, a reader can know exactly which days to return to the blog for new content.
Posting new content Mondays, Wednesday and Saturdays is likely to stick more in the mind of a reader than new content that is posted every other day (as therefore the day of posting changes every week).

I plan on getting a helpful post up twice a week for ahnternet. This is simply because as much as I would like my blog to grow, I have other blogs that need maintenance too. I do lots of outsourcing (especially for promotion), but I also like to know everything that is going on in my (mini)sites/projects/blogs. So, while I try to help out people through my blog, I have other things on my online dish too. I’m currently in the process of setting up a community too and we’re going to be launching off pretty soon, so I see that taking up a good portion of my time too. You may have heard about it, but communities take up so much time for very little return, especially in the beginning.
Plus, I have a personal life and school to attend too, so that takes up a lot of my time too.

Hi simon,
Really its a great topic every blogger should read.. Consistency is needed for every one of us…Posting four to five articles on a single day will not be efficient.. We need time to promote the article. So upto my point posting thrice in a week will be good

Exactly. Also, if you do 4 posts one day, then don’t post again for a week, it could really confuse your readers.
@simon
If they post 4 articles in a day, it is difficult to promote all the articles..
Today we enter into 2010… I wish everyone here Happy New Year…

I try to post at least ever day. Sometimes more, occasionally less. My blog doesn’t really have a tightly focused direction just yet. Hell, it may never, but with the wide variety of interests, there’s an awful lot to talk about. I am adding your site to my list of blogs to visit, Simon. It’s an interesting place to visit.

Great article as it’s one I was working on yesterday as a part of my 2010 Marketing Plan.
In my case I have been blogging pretty consistently 3-4 times per week. However, in 2010 it’s my goal to eventually get to every day.
In my case the reasons for wanting to post every day are as follows:
1. Varied content – I want to have a schedule so that my readers know on Monday I provide a blog about Subject A, Tuesday – Subject B and so on
2. I want massive exposure to my blog – LOL – J/K – although I do want more exposure I actually want to eventually figure out how to monetize it, which is something I have not yet done and I’m not actually even sure what was is best for me to do it.
In my case – because I do not want to overwhelm my readers I do have a new opt in box on my site that will deliver only one post per week, which is my Weekly Round-Up.
One of my first posts for 2010 will describe my new plan (after I get it worked out logistically) and then encourage my readers that if I get to be “too much” they can opt in on the Aweber once a week – Weekly Round Up Post.
It is my opinion that I will be able to achieve my goals with that format. We’ll see how it goes!

Good luck with increasing the posting frequency!
For me, it’s something which I just couldn’t realistically achieve. I’m not an extremely organised person, so at times I struggle to get a post out every 2 days as I don’t write posts in advance (something I plan to change!). Also, as well as the personal side of it, I’m not sure how well my readers would react. As you suggested, increasing posting frequency could overwhelm readers and cause comments to drop. Personally, I think I’d only go to a post a day if my comment count significantly rises to 20-30 per day (I think it’s 5-13 ish at the moment

I also post once in two days. It is because i have another blog and also busy with my work. So, the best is once post each two days for my current state.

I think this frequency is up to each blogger, sometimes I post 2-3 posts per day as it is hot and can not delay until tomorrow and sometimes no posts 2-3 days or even a week due to my busy work, anyway it is good suggestion for consideration and I think scheduled post would help me then

Thanks for the comment, Tinh. I see that, in some cases (such as yours), it could be best to not have a specified schedule, especially if you need to be one of the first people to report news to get good coverage.
Yes, so it depends, right? Happy New Year!

Cool post.. I think I should learn some points from it. As I don’t ever post on particular intervals.. I’m a looser in case of updating my blog.. *cries*
Well, I think I should take some time out of my activities to give to blogging.

I am struggling with this right now. I would love to post everyday as I feel that it is the best for what I am trying to accomplish. Some days it is so hard to come up with content. I am going to try a lot harder to stick to the planned schedule in the new year.
Thanks for the comment, Taylor. I agree that sometimes it’s difficult to get the motivation/article idea to write a post. My suggestion for this would be to either:
a) Write as many articles as you can when you’re “in the zone”
b) Get a guest poster in to help.
c) Carry a notebook and jot down ideas for articles when you get them!
on average i will post 2-4 per day. It’s difficult to follow some frequency in blogging because every one face the important works will be happend,
at the time blogging is difficult. To avoid one step ahead we have to blog in advance and delivered it by timestamp. Thanks for this post.

I Agree with you , 1 every 2 days is completely reasonable , when alone a post a day can get alittle hectic and incomplete at times due to needing time daily for this.
We’re doubling up and posting twice a day now. If we can get a guest post once a day or a few times a week ,that would be great.
I wish to maintain my blog consistency too. However, i not manage to finish writing my article in a short period. I need to do a lot of studies and researches so that i can produce a quality content.
