Why Relaunching Your Blog Is Awesome!

October 21st, 2009 · 30 Comments

Over the past month or so, for various reasons I haven’t been posting very much here on this blog. Infact, I would say my posting rate has been diabolical and I apologise for that, although I’m not going to delve in to my reasons. Anyway, another thing that I’ve noticed is that my presence in the blogosphere has shrunk significantly due to a lack of commenting on other blogs.

So, where am I heading with this?

Well, because of the fact I’ve had a bit of time out; my blog has suffered, so I’m relaunching it. This post is also going to say why you should relaunch your blog too, even if you haven’t been inactive.

As to not confuse things, here’s my idea of what relaunching your blog is:

In my opinion, relaunching your blog is where you change something on your blog publically. You don’t have to scrap all your old posts, you don’t have to do anything major. Just as long as you change something and let people know about it, I would class it as a relaunch!

Without further ado, here are my reasons:

Try new things

Relaunching your blog gives you the chance to try something new. It could be anything: a new theme or logo, a themed day (such as Asnio’s Thesis Thursdays) or anything new! Personally, I’m trying out posting on a more regular basis, as well as having contests (so stay tuned for them)!

Relaunching your blog is a great opportunity to introduce something new or just put a variant on something to make it different! You could even experiment and see whether your readers find one thing preferable over another, thus making your blog better!

Reach a new audience

By starting your blog afresh, you can advertise in a different way and therefore reach out to a new audience. A friend of mine recently relaunched his blog, and in doing so found a whole new readership, boosting his RSS count massively. Give it a try and see if it works for you!

Connect with new people

It kind of links in with the last point, but by getting new readers, you’re bound to make new contacts which could prove to be invaluable. Also, I would hope that if you were to relaunch your blog, you would also start commenting on more blogs too, so that should introduce you to some new bloggers. As well as this, don’t be afraid to email a blogger just to say ‘hi’ and get to know them a bit. One thing I’ve found whilst blogging is that who you know is more important than who you are! Sounds harsh, but it’s true!

  • I have been trying to do the same myself! Got some great new topic ideas and trying to post a little more often.

    • Teenius says:

Yeah, the new look has really contributed to a relaunch by you! I look forward to the ‘posting more often’… I love your articles! :)

  • Hey Simon! You bring up a great point in this post. I am also planning on relaunching my site soon with a completely redeveloped theme. And there are clearly a few great reasons to do so.

    • Teenius says:

Cool, I look forward to the new theme, shoot me an email letting me know when it’s up and I’ll be sure to drop by and leave a few comments and let you know what I think! ;)

  • Changes are always good for sites and blog. Its a good idea go ahead, I am also thinking about it.

  • Nice points you have made in this post. Changing keep live your blog freshness. I like it.

    • Teenius says:

Very good point about keeping your blog fresh. Whilst you shouldn’t change big things (like the theme) too often as it could wreck your branding, changing things to keep up to date with the trends is a great way of making your blog more appealing to readers! :)

  • Javs says:

That was good to hear and I have jus launched my new site and started connecting to new people

Looks like a relaunch season is going on! Coincidently, I am also planning a relaunch on blog’s first birthday. Me and other writers have not taken (much)holidays from blogging and have blogged smoothly throughout first year and looking forward to have more great time!

    • Teenius says:

Cool, I’ll keep checking back on your site to see if it’s been done! ;) But, well done on getting your blog to 1 year old! That takes some serious committment and effort… nice one!

  • This is what I’ve done with my blog. Especially after I got back from long holiday. Now i am working harder than before.

    • Teenius says:

Yeah, I think the best time for a relaunch is after a period with lack of posting. I’m guessing that if you just left your blog, your traffic went down, so this is a great way to try something new and then boost your reader count back up! :)

  • mytheory says:

nice suggestion! i also want to relaunch my blog, but i just wait for the right time. I’ve done many changes on my blog, including start to update my content daily. Hopefully, if my readers basis get more solid, i will relaunch my blog.

    • Teenius says:

Seriously, don’t keep putting it off! Infact, a relaunch might even make your reader base more solid and bring new readers in! ;) Personally, I would advise you to just go for it! The worst that will happen is you lose a reader or two, but even so you should find even more readers anyway!

      • mytheory says:

        i will do my best.
but i think i’m not gonna post about my relaunch on my blog, i just try to practice new style of writing(not only make a post about tutorial, but try to do guestposting, interview, or something else), and try enlarge my readers basis
anyway, you said that the worst thing that will happen if we relaunch our blog is lose a reader or two. Could you explain me why this can be happen? Thanks

        • Teenius says:

I suppose you always run the risk of losing a reader or two if you change something. For instance, if they like your site how it is at the moment, and then you change something that they don’t like, they could stop visiting your blog.

  • Melvin says:

Relaunching is really a good thing. Last trime was my Internship and I barely posted 5-6 posts a month. After the internship I did a relaunch by basically trying out new methods of marketing and guest posting w/c helped a lot..

    • Teenius says:

Yeah, in the next few days I’m going on a massive guest posting spree, already have over 5 blogs lined up, but I’m hoping to double that figure. It’s going to be a lot of work, but hopefully it’ll pay off! :)

  • Enk. says:

Good Post Simon, Looks like you are back in action ! ;)

  • Ben Lang says:

Thanks for the ideas! Very well written article, I really enjoyed it! :)

  • Amar says:

Hey simon, I have been checking your blog regularly and I have noticed that you are coming up with articles regularly now. Great Re-launching :) All the best

  • Well, sorry to burst some of your bubbles, but it all depends on how you are going to relaunch it and what kind of post are you going to blog about.

I believe in positive changes, like for example, if you’ve been blogging about ‘Making Money Online’, yeah, hard market to get into and you decide to stop for awhile.

THEN, you decide to come back, but sometimes, going back to ‘Making Money Online’ again may not be such a good choice. Perhaps make a change in what you are blogging about. Like change it to, ‘Why Relaunching Your Blog Is Awesome’.

Haha :) Anyways! Thanks for this post mate!

  • BlogrPro says:

Relaunching your blog is one of the best method of blog marketing since it makes lot of attraction and attention over your blog.

I always love to change my blog design as much as I can to look unique and fastest one. I did that and the response for such relaunch is amazing.

Contests can make our blog in a new level but that’s all depends on the way we are conducting it.

    • Teenius says:

Good points there! That said, I don’t think you should relaunch too often. I say this because a relaunch means your branding strategy will probably be changing (Especially if you’re changing your logo and theme), so this could get quite confused and this could actually lead to a negative effect!
