Article Ideas For Those Uninspired Days

May 9th, 2009 · 4 Comments

I know for a fact that a lot of bloggers struggle to come up with ideas for new content for their blog, and, although I wrote a post about getting ideas, I was very vague and the post was aimed towards helping you get ideas rather than actually giving you ideas. Since that post, a few people have asked me for ideas for blog posts, so here’s a post that should hopefully give you some tips.

inspiration

Get “inspiration”

OK, I use the word inspiration lightly; after all, this paragraph is effectively about copying ideas. Find a post on someone’s blog that you really liked, and use that topic to base your post on. If you’re going to do this, though, you should always put your own twist on the idea to make it unique and maybe link back to the original idea.

Read Your Comments

Reading your comments is a great way of getting ideas. Here on Teenius I’ve received plenty of questions in the comments, some of which I’ve written a post about. If you’re stuck for ideas it’s well worth reading your comments to see what your readers actually want.

Choose Successful Topics

When I say this, I mean look at your blog and see which posts were the most successful. For me, some of the posts with the most comments on have been about Twitter, so, naturally, if I’m stuck for ideas I’m more likely to post about Twitter than anything else.

Get A Guest Poster

Guest posters are a great way of getting a post for your blog if you’re stuck for ideas. This basically consists of someone coming to your blog and writing a post for you in exchange for a link back. If you’re desperate for a post, guest posters aren’t ideal, but with proper planning, guest posts are great.

Interview Someone

If you’re really stuck for ideas, interview someone and post it on your blog. This is not only a great idea for posts (usually they’re really successful), but it also helps someone get more exposure for themselves. You’ll probably find that the vast majority of people would love to be interviewed, so why not ask someone and make their day?!

Write A List

Using the ‘choose successful topics’ point… make a list! This is a great way of doing a post as you don’t really need to write a lot. All you need is to think of points relevant to the topic and just write down a brief sentence about what that point is. You’ll probably also find that people love lists, and they’re therefore great for social networking/bookmarking traffic, and also receive loads of comments!

Give Some ‘Link Love’

Link Love is where you link to another site, usually a post made on that site. If you’re going to give link love, I recommend that you identify five posts or so that you really liked, and your readers will therefore like it too. This is not only an easy way of making a post; it also helps relations with the blogger you link to and also helps them out!

Have Your Say

Was this article helpful? What do you post about when you’ve got no inspiration? How do you get ideas for those posts? I’d love to hear some of your replies, so please feel free to leave a comment below.

Those are some great ideas! I’ve found that reading other blogs usually helps inspire me, and asking people what they want to hear is great too. Your readers will love it, especially if you give them credit for the suggestion!

Yeah, everyone loves a linkback, and it costs nothing to give one, so if someone’s helped you out, linking to their blog is the least you can do really! ;)

Yeah, the “read comments” one is up there with my favourites. It just means that you can actually give your readers exactly what they want :)
