Quite a while ago, I did a post all about guest posting on other people’s blogs. This post was called ‘Guest Posting: What, Why and Where’ which told you what a guest post was, how they could help your blog and where you should try and guest post. Today I’m going to look at it from the other side and actually speak about why it’s important to have guest posters on your own blog.
Let’s get straight in to it…
Time
Firstly, you can save yourself a lot of time if you get guest posters on your blog. This point is pretty self explanatory, but if someone else is writing the post for your blog, you can spend more time advertising or just doing other things.
Variety
In my opinion, a blog needs variety. One of the things you can do to achieve this is to get guest posters in, as not only will their writing style differ from yours, they may also have a different perspective on things, which will allow your readers to see something different from you on your blog (not that you’re a bad thing – it’s just good to have variety)
Ideas
Following on from the previous point slightly, different bloggers will have plenty of great ideas, some of which you may not have thought of. This means that your blog gets a cool post!
It’s free!
OK, on a business side of thing, it’s free! Imagine you are going on holiday for a few days or something. If you still want to update your blog, you’ll probably find yourself paying for someone to post, but guest posters will do it for free!
Relationships
Letting someone guest post on your blog (or even inviting them to do so) is a great way of letting someone know that you think they’re a good blogger. This is a great way of forming relationships with other bloggers.
Traffic
If someone guest posts on your blog, the likelihood is that they’ll want to get the post out there just as much as you do. I know when I guest post on other blogs I always try and make that post known through Twitter and other methods. Having someone guest post who is willing to advertise the post could bring huge traffic benefits to your site.
Requirements:
OK, they aren’t requirements as such, but these things will definitely help your blog to get guest posters:
- Popularity – If your blog is popular, you’re much more likely to get guest posters. I mean, most people will only guest post on your site for the free advertising they’ll receive, so they’re unlikely to want to post on an empty blog as it’s just a waste of their time.
- Friends – The “other” guest posters will be posting because they like and/or respect you. Therefore, it’s vital that you either have friends who are in your niche, or plenty of traffic.
That’s your lot
Have you had guest posters on your blog or website? Did it help? What would you add to this post? As always, I’d love to hear from you. As well as that, if you want to see some of the guest posts on Teenius you can click here, or to guest post yourself you can visit the ‘Guest Post’ page.

I think you pretty much nailed it on this post, Simon! Not only will a blog owner benefit from a guest post, I think it’s practically necessary to occasionally share someone else’s. But it’s still the blog owners responsibility to make sure it’s a quality post.
By the way, I run a blog for young entrepreneurs, JuniorBiz.com, and I’m looking for a guest poster for next week (Alexa ranking, 449,106). If anyone’s interested, let me know. Thanks!

Yeah, you should definately moderate the quality of the guest post… after all, you don’t want to ruin your blog by posting any old rubbish
I think you covered evey benefit of Guest Posting in this post, Simon!
I’m always on the lookout for guest posters myself, especially because they bring a whole new perspective with them. Sometimes it pays to mix things up a bit
PS: Would love to see a followup on the “dangers” or “downside” of guest posting too

Yeah, I’ve done a couple of guest posts on Blogussion now and both seem to have gone pretty well.
And, thanks for the idea Janith! I’ll see what I can rustle up
i agree with janith. i think there could also be some downside on guest posting? hmmm…i will watch out for that one here.

OK cool, try and stay tuned for it in the next week or so!
I had guest post on other people’s blog before, and now people are guest posting on my blog, is great since, guest posters mostly helps to cover you time to do other stuff, but after all, you still need to post your own post, so that you readers know you are still there.
The Bad Blogger’s last blog post..The May DotCom Secrets Journal Review !
Yeah, that’s a very good point. As good as guest posters are, you should try never to let them take over your blog. Personally I’ll never publish two guest posts in a row… there has to be at least one post in between them
Guest posting is a win-win situation for both bloggers.
And it is always good to have guest posts as they give you a break and your readers a change in style.
Nice post

Yeah exactly. The owner of the blog gets the points I mentioned in the post, whilst the guest blogger gets exposure for their website!
I think its easier said than done. I would love to have guest posters in my blog, but how would you get someone to go through all the trouble of writing a post for your blog?
Abdul’s last blog post..Why You Should UnFollow Everyone On Twitter
It’s all about what they get in return. When someone guest posts, you’ll give them credit for the article with a link or two and a short author bio. That way, they’ll get traffic from people who read the article and click their link
Great post Simon. I find that guest posters can bring all of these things and even more. Guest posters are really great for any blog.

Thanks for the compliment! And nice work on finding someone that quickly!
Well there are good and down side of guest post.I see you continue with the same topic. The worst part is editing of guest posts which will eat lots of ur time.
Yeah, that’s a good point, but a lot of bloggers won’t even edit posts. I’ll discuss it in the post I do about the negatives
Good post Simon. According to me a blog obviously needs guest posts. At least one or two if one could not get much. It can really hold your blog in the same status. And honestly even Darren Rowse posts much guest posts on his blog.

Darren Rowse posts LOTS of guest posts on his blog… maybe even too much. I mean, I bet around half of the recent posts were guest posts.

I think guest posting is a great idea, in both directions, as long as it is done right. It is a great way to form friendships and business relationships. Guest posting on another blog can also be a good way to get your own newer blog “out of the dark,” and you might win some new loyal readers, beyond present-time traffic. I have given and received guest posts but I do want to start doing more of this.
