The Advantages Of Having Guest Posters On Your Blog

June 20th, 2009 · 33 Comments

Quite a while ago, I did a post all about guest posting on other people’s blogs. This post was called ‘Guest Posting: What, Why and Where’ which told you what a guest post was, how they could help your blog and where you should try and guest post. Today I’m going to look at it from the other side and actually speak about why it’s important to have guest posters on your own blog.

Let’s get straight in to it…

Time

Firstly, you can save yourself a lot of time if you get guest posters on your blog. This point is pretty self explanatory, but if someone else is writing the post for your blog, you can spend more time advertising or just doing other things.

Variety

In my opinion, a blog needs variety. One of the things you can do to achieve this is to get guest posters in, as not only will their writing style differ from yours, they may also have a different perspective on things, which will allow your readers to see something different from you on your blog (not that you’re a bad thing – it’s just good to have variety)

Ideas

Following on from the previous point slightly, different bloggers will have plenty of great ideas, some of which you may not have thought of. This means that your blog gets a cool post!

It’s free!

OK, on a business side of thing, it’s free! Imagine you are going on holiday for a few days or something. If you still want to update your blog, you’ll probably find yourself paying for someone to post, but guest posters will do it for free!

Relationships

Letting someone guest post on your blog (or even inviting them to do so) is a great way of letting someone know that you think they’re a good blogger. This is a great way of forming relationships with other bloggers.

Traffic

If someone guest posts on your blog, the likelihood is that they’ll want to get the post out there just as much as you do. I know when I guest post on other blogs I always try and make that post known through Twitter and other methods. Having someone guest post who is willing to advertise the post could bring huge traffic benefits to your site.

Requirements:

OK, they aren’t requirements as such, but these things will definitely help your blog to get guest posters:

  • Popularity – If your blog is popular, you’re much more likely to get guest posters. I mean, most people will only guest post on your site for the free advertising they’ll receive, so they’re unlikely to want to post on an empty blog as it’s just a waste of their time.
  • Friends – The “other” guest posters will be posting because they like and/or respect you. Therefore, it’s vital that you either have friends who are in your niche, or plenty of traffic.

That’s your lot

Have you had guest posters on your blog or website? Did it help? What would you add to this post? As always, I’d love to hear from you. As well as that, if you want to see some of the guest posts on Teenius you can click here, or to guest post yourself you can visit the ‘Guest Post’ page.
